Museum of Moscow, Triumph Gallery and RDI company presents an exhibition of Alexander Vinogradov and Vladimir Dubosarsky titled ”Moscow: The Escaping Reality.” The exhibition is devoted to Moscow and will open especially for the City Day on September 5th, 2014.

In the works of the artists Moscow from different eras bursts upon the audience – from the end of the 19th century to the present day. Each part of the exhibition is devoted to a single epoch; however, it comes to fixing the imaginary or illusory capital, in which there are fragments of the past life, nonexistent city views, pictures of black and white movies, fragments of pop culture, naive urban design and agitprop. This is not a retrospective, but a remodeling approach, while the object of the reconstruction is not a real Moscow, but only the reminiscence of it comprising not only the city itself, but also fantasy, hopes and fears of its inhabitants.

Vinogradov and Dubosarsky have been working together since the mid 90s. In their large-scale paintings the artists connect the images of popular culture and advertising with household scenes describing the lives of the heroes of our time. The project titled “Danger! Museum” (2009), the artists presented the secret life of an imaginary museum, the heroes of a series of papers “On the Block” (2010) became popular Russian and Hollywood stars who had reincarnated in the usual inhabitants of the suburbs of Moscow, and as part of their own retrospective Vinogradov and Dubosarsky instead of presenting to the public their well-known works, on the contrary, demonstrated those, which were not finished in one time or another. In the new exhibition the artists have built a diverse image of the ideal Moscow, where history and modernity are mixed.
